A Twisted Girl’s Take on Love, Dating and Zodiac Signs

Need Expert Bloggers’ Opinions (re: Moneytizing a blog’s traffic)

TV audio ads on my site?!?

I received an email regarding a new internet ad campaign that is on pre-launch. It is a moneytization scheme that was sent to me by a reliable source (one of the numerous social networks that I joined). As of the moment, I have only been exposed to moneytization systems that requires clicks to earn… but the system of Pay-per-Play is different…

Here’s a snippet of the mail I received:

I want to show you how to get a 100% conversion rate on your blog
traffic. This is not a sales pitch and there is nothing to buy. There is no
squeeze page that is designed to sell you anything later either. This is an event that you should know about…
First there was Pay Per Click advertising which pays you on the small percentage of website visitors that actually click on an advertisement. Now there is “Pay Per Play” advertising that will pay you on 100% of your website traffic… NO CLICKS NECESSARY! Pay Per Play caters to an audience that is larger than radio, television and print media combined!Billions of dollars are being spent by big brand advertisers and they are ready to pay you. Will you claim your share of the pie?Or will you let someone else have it?……. PayperPlay

This was instantly attractive because I have worked hard to promote my blog to new readers through Entrecard and other social networks (blog catalog, mybloglog, bumpzee etc.). If traffic is their basis for paying me… then i guess this will give me more revenue than the “clicks” that I have been counting on to moneytize my blog.

Hear out my analysis of the PayperPlay scheme first and then please comment on my questions:

  • It is based on the supposition that Advertisers’ ROI from television ads has become less lucrative with the advent of web 2.0. Some advertisers who apparently have spent millions on TV ads are now looking at the internet as the more popular venue for pitching products to consumers. ——– I have also been watching tv less and less since I started downloading my favorite TV series from the net, and reading the daily news from news websites . The viewer’s preference of the net over TV was further emphasized with the Writer’s Guild of America demands of getting paid for internet distribution of their work. So, i guess this claim is valid.
  • This PayperPlay scheme has apparently been around for a long time but is now going full force because of a new anonymous SEARCH ENGINE partner/backer that is touted to provide the power to back this scheme up. The whole explanation of the scheme was fairly transparent except for this. They will reveal who their secret search engine partner is right before the official launch early next year.
  • They need buzz now (even if the official launch is a few months away) and people need to sign up and spread the word about this scheme, and invite others immediately. These people and those they bring in will be the core group who will benefit (be moneytized) from the ads when they launch. After an initial recruitment period (no specific dates given), and they have the number of partner websites that they need (no specific numerical value given) the recruitment stops and no new members/partners will be invited. This means that only those who signed up early will be paid by the advertisers when they launch.

This is the promo page, kindly read and discuss it over here.

Now for my questions

  • I am too much of a newbie blogger to make a calculated guess on who this “search engine partner” they are talking about. Who do you think it is? And also, why do you think there’s a need for secrecy? Is this a new search engine or an old one, or a small one (but not so popular)?
  • Will they limit the number of affiliates they will recruit because they need to control the possible loophole-exploitation that may arise from this scheme (e.g. google adsense fraudulent clicks, Widgetbucks losses from too much affiliate money output)? Or is this their way of assuring that their advertisers will not be progressively paying a lot of people, at the expense of their returns?
  • Do you think this pre-launch buzz is actually a trial of how internet people will accept TV audio ads?
  • THAT unspoken question… you know what it is…. :D

There are so many factors to think about and I can only make assumptions. It’s a new type of moneytization so I can only trust others to analyse this scheme with me while it’s in its beta stage. Not many bloggers have been blogging about this so I’m taking the initiative to ask these questions. Hopefully, some more experienced bloggers will share their ideas.
