Palmistry 101
I have always abided by the most basic principle of Palmistry. When you look at your hands the first things you see are….. fingers! So that’s how I always start.
For beginning palm readers, these books are helpful. Learning about it on your own is really a fantastic experience as you can approach and develop your own technique at will. For those who want to turn this talent into a livelihood, investing on these books is the best way to start. No it won’t magically bestow you the gift of predicting lottery results neither will it miraculously allow you to read opponent’s poker hands. What you’ll gain though is a deeper understanding and perception of human nature.

The primary factors in interpreting finger length, angle and overall appearance can be summarized in a few words. Make sure that you are reading the dominant hand (the one that the person primarily uses). If the person is ambidextrous, read the hand that he uses more often.
Forefinger represents the ego, confidence and ambition
Middle Finger represents integrity, discipline and balance
Ring Finger represents the emotional aspects
Little Finger represents the ability to communicate and express
Thumb represents will power
These are a few things I personally begin with when checking a palm. I look out for the first indications of personality by analysing the fingers. The person must have relaxed hands and a few shakes ought to do it. Also, take note of what you initially felt the first time you touched the hand. This is when your intuition must be optimum.
These next examples are just some of the readings that I encountered, in application of the above principles.
1. Is he a rebel or a pushover?
Ideally, the forefinger must be at the level of the middle finger’s nail base. This is a sign of a balanced ego. Someone who shows signs of following his own rules have a forefinger that challenges the middle finger in length. This represents an egotistic approach, or at the very least, over confidence. Watch out when the forefinger is at a level with the middle one because that person will not hesitate to bend the rules and impose his own as he sees fit. A person with a short forefinger (barely reaches the middle finger’s nail base) is technically someone who shows inferiority or excessive insecurity.
2. Is he emotionally available?
The ring finger’s closeness to the little finger is crucial to gauging a person’s emotional availability. If it is too far from the pinkie (and closer to the middle finger), the person’s emotions are greatly controlled and he probably won’t show much of what he’s really feeling. When the ring finger and the pinkie are close (usually the case with all my previous readings), you have to consider the length of the little finger. If it’s too long (it crosses the upper line of the ring finger), that person can communicate his emotions well. If it’s too short, the opposite, and you will end up guessing if he’s crying because he’s happy or because he’s sad.
3. Is he conservative or liberal minded? How stubborn is he?
The thumb’s degree of separation from the rest of the fingers signifies the openness of one’s mind. The farther it is from the rest, the more open minded a person is. I have often viewed myself as liberated, and for many years, my thumb’s distance from my fingers confirmed it. Lately, with me being a mom and settling down, I noticed my thumb being more and more unyielding to tension than before. Some might say that it’s because of the way I type in a keyboard, but analysing the evolution of my beliefs then and now, I’m inclined to think that I have indeed “mellowed down”. The thumb’s size is also an indication of the stubborness of a person. The bigger it is, the more stubborn and unyielding a person is.
