Mediocrity and What it Can Do To You
I was looking for a great graduation quote from a famous person, and the funny thing is, nothing tops this one from Josie Geller (Drew Barrymore, Never Been Kissed).
“All of you people, there is a big world out there… bigger than prom, bigger than high school and it won’t matter if you were the prom queen, the quarterback of the football team, or the biggest nerd in school. Find out who you are and try not to be afraid of it.”
Before I leave for my well-deserved Easter vacation, I just want to say a few words about mediocrity… or the ‘case of being average’. You see, I believe we only have 2 choices available to us in any situation, whether it’s in our relationships or in our jobs….
1. to be unique, to stand out, to be a misfit
2. to be like everyone else
Mediocrity is habit forming.
Once you start forming opinions based on other people’s opinions, once you start believing that you’re no different from the next guy or girl, you sink into the hole of “being average”… and this deep dark hole is the trap that will keep you from getting your dreams.
Have you ever thought “I can do this anytime I want, I don’t have to do this now”, “this task is too easy, it’s not even worth the trouble”, or “I’m too smart for this”… you might be in danger of going deeper into the abyss of mediocrity.
Why don’t you make your first date the best she ever had?
Why don’t you ace this job interview like it’s your last?
Why don’t you dazzle your wife or girlfriend today by being that awesome guy she chose to live her life with?
Here’s the truth about excellence (which I learned the hard way): No task is beneath you.
If you commit yourself to doing something, do it well. Put your heart into it, or don’t do it at all.
With that, happy Easter!
Stay safe!

I’ve been lucky I suppose…way too strange to be considered average
Though sometimes it is nice to be able to blend in and not get any attention either.
