Webcam Zombies, Rich Street Ghosts and Phantom Joggers

By woobie

The evil woobie will be spending Halloween in northern Philippines where the surf’s up and the muscled hotties are riding the waves. Before I go, I’ll leave you with a few ghost stories and urban legends to get you in the mood for the season of Scare.

The Bloody Web Cam Chat

A viral post has been going around about a dead guy chatting on  webcam with his girl. The cam chat starts innocently enough and lovers exchange the necessary pleasantries, until the girl receives word on her cellphone that her boyfriend is dead. As soon as she realizes that he can’t be the one talking to her because he’s dead, the webcam image morphs from that of a normal guy to a bloody-faced one with no eyes.

Balete Drive Ghost

There’s a rich people’s tiny street in Metro Manila lined with huge Ficus (balete) trees and even bigger old houses. Because the street is out of the way, and the walled Spanish mansions deserted by rich owners, no one heard the screaming of a young girl who was raped and killed there a long time ago. She is the fabled ghost in Balete drive, who rides in taxis and disappears from site as soon as the driver glances at the rear view mirror.

Most people now scoff at the story, but there are some accounts that tell of haunted houses facing each other in that area. Cab drivers and their passengers travel around the dim old Manila street seeing the same houses over and over, like they’re not moving away from the place. It is said that the old owners who fled the city when war erupted refused to give the rights to the mansions to heirs. Selfish souls went back to the old Spanish mansions and stayed there among the riches they still see through their ghostly eyes.

The Ghostly Third Wheel

This story actually happened to me. I and a girl friend went jogging near the intramuros walls to preen at some guys in an Engineering school having their cadet (ROTC) training. Soon, one of the guys approached us and started flirting.

A week later, we went jogging again and talked to the same guy.  Strangely enough, he kept asking about the ‘third girl’ who went with us the week before. We tried our best to convince him that there was no third girl, but he described ‘her’ in detail, from her hairlength to the color of her jogging shorts.

An apparition appeared in our dorm room that night. The ‘girl’ appeared and talked to my friend; who reported that a ghost whispered this phrase to her the whole night…

“We’ve been together in this room for so long, why have you never told me that I am already dead?…”
