Single Living Cooking Tip: Cook for Your Date Like a Pro!
Le Faux Gourmet!
One of the pressures of living alone is learning how to cook. When you live alone and you have a stable job, who has time to cook for one’s self? I didn’t. I availed of food deliveries or became the adopted daughter of the canteen downstairs. I got by ok, until I found out that the best-way-to-a-man’s-heart cliche is true…Men will often want you to cook for them!
Fortunately, there’s a way to fake the ‘expertise’ and here’s how I did it:
What you will need
- Around a kilo of your choice of meat
- Flour or pre-mixed dry coating (optional)
- A pack of several specialty sauces (teriyaki, curry, sweet and sour, or chilli)
- A bunch of parsley, red bell pepper or carrots
1. When you have a 3-hour free time during the week, fry the meat then store in the freezer (sans oil, and covered in plastic). Make sure the meat is cooked through.
- Deep fry in high heat for around 2 mins then turn the fire way low and cook for 10-15 mins more.
- No special dressing, go mild rather than spicy
- If you have to coat the meat, use dry flour rather than a wet mixture
2. When he comes over during the weekend, thaw some of the fried meat a few hours before he arrives then choose the sauce pack you want to serve and pre-heat a wok.
3. Cook the sauce first and when it’s boiling, drop the thawed, pre-fried meat on the boiling sauce and stir. Let the heat cook the meat through (use low heat after the initial high heat) and place the meat + sauce in a serving bowl.
4. The crucial part: Garnishing!
- Grate the carrot over the dish, or
- Chop the parsely and sprinkle on the dish, or
- slice the bell pepper into strips and artistically position the strips on the dish
The key to making him think that you’re the best cook in the world (besides his mom) is to act nonchalant about the whole cooking process (like you have been doing it forever). Buy an apron that has a witty one-liner written in front, something like “Kiss the Cook”.
Have fun!

Aha! Alam ko na ngayon ang blog na binabasa ni Piolo kung bakit nakita ko siyang bumili ng apron na may print na “Kiss the Cook”.
@Mario
OMG! Anything to impress Sam huh?
it’s funny you should mention that… upon analysis of my past (unsuccessful) ploys to get my crushes’ attention and affection – i did often resort to cooking for them. not for them specifically, it was always in the context of a party or bringing food for everyone, but it always felt great that even if they never thought about dating me, they always said i was a pretty good cook.
um wait… there is something seriously wrong with that train of thought… *lol*

@claire
let me put it this way… cooking skills are to girls, as sports are to guys… it’s an impressive achievement thing.
I remember asking a boyfriend “is the dish delicious?” and what happened the rest of the night depended solely on how he answered that question.
Heh.
I love to impress my date. Women likes it when a men prepares a good dinner. He shows that he can take care of him self and I guess women like that. IMHO.
@Prevodi
Oh yeah, women dig men who can cook. A guy looks most attractive in an apron IMO
I don’t know why, but it’s very attractive to have a woman that knows how to cook.
Maybe it’s wired somewhere in our genes, and knowing how to cook is a more desirable trait.
Regardless, there’s no better surprise for a man to get an unexpected meal cooked for him. I still talk about the freshly baked cookies my girlfriend made me last year… seriously, they were THAT good.
