A Twisted Girl’s Take on Love, Dating and Zodiac Signs

Kid Nation Raves

I have just started watching Kid Nation and I can honestly say my previous doubts about the program are gone. It is a wonderfully produced reality tv series that does not in any way exploit children. I wasn’t alone in my horrification at the thought of a tv show that will show how kids survive and struggle in a deserted mining town without adult supervision. Read the related articles:
Moonves (CBS) should pull the plug on Kid Nation.

Advertisers boycott reality show featuring kids

Watching the first 7 episodes, I realized that it does not in any way exploit or humiliate children (as I initially feared). In fact, it does the opposite. It promotes kids, and their capabilities and potentials. They chose 40 children from 8 to 15 years of age, who show a lot of promise. These are kids that are above average in everything, from morals to intelligence. These are early achievers who have been raised in a way that is very commendable. These are their common denominators.

They do, however, come from different socio-economic backgrounds, geographical locations, races and cultures, which creates the diversity that the show also promotes. There are asian kids, caucasians, blacks; geeks, jocks, musicians, philosophers, student leaders, pageant queens; rich and poor kids.

Considering the number of uptight people in the US, and this shows popularity (it’s currenty in the top 10 in tv rankings), I’m thinking that more and more people are getting the point. This show is for adults to realize the values that are more-often-than-not overlooked or ignored in the real world. It smacks us in the face and reminds us of how innocence of corruption and immorality can be a good thing, and could actually be used to make life better in any community.
We watch in rapt attention at the cuteness of the kids, how they give their hearts and souls to everything they do. How proud their parents must be of them.
