Women Leaders
woobie on October 20th, 2007Borrowing my guildmate’s (cha) slogan, “some leaders are born women”, i repost a news report from inquirer.net on Women in Power. The latest addition being Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, set to become Argentina’s first female president.

Here’s the list of some female leaders all over the world:
- Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, 60: President of the Philippines since January 2001; she was confirmed in the post in elections three years later.
- Pratibha Patil, 72: Became India’s first female president in July this year, after having been elected by federal and state lawmakers.
- Micheline Calmy-Rey, 62: Became Switzerland’s second female federal president in January 2007. The post rotates every year.
- Han Myung-Sook, 63: Was appointed the first female prime minister of South Korea in March 2006.
- Michelle Bachelet, 56. Elected the first female president of Chile in January 2006.
- Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, 69: Elected the first female president of Liberia in 2005, and was sworn in in January 2006.
- Angela Merkel, 53: Became Germany’s first woman chancellor in November 2005, heading a “grand coalition” government.
- Luisa Diogo, 49: Appointed the first female prime minister of Mozambique in February 2004.
- Tarja Halonen, 63: Became the first female president of Finland in February 2000; she was elected to a second term in March 2006.
- Helen Clark, 57: Elected prime minister of New Zealand in December 1999, and is still in the post. She succeeded Jenny Shipley, who had been the country’s first female premier.
- Mary McAleese, 56: President of the Republic of Ireland since 1997, when she was elected to succeed Mary Robinson, the country’s first female head of state.
