The world’s oldest aphrodisiac has always been alcohol. It is often said that date rapes and other felonies start with the first drink. We heard stories of celebrities and normal people going to jail due to DUI (driving under the influence). While my central topic now is not a felony per se, the aftereffects of PUI (playing under the influence) could be equally emotionally devastating.

While alcohol intoxication has always been used as the age-old excuse for unwholesome behavior, it does not in any way change how people who are less drunk have perceived you during the time that you were PUI. It’s a good thing that you don’t remember everything because you might not want to remember at all!

I’ve seen decent ladies who can’t handle their liquor make fools of themselves during parties by drinking too much. In their minds, they probably thought that they were so popular and cool. However, regret comes when they hear stories of how they behaved the previous night. On the other hand, there can also be the pride that they got everyone’s attention. In a party where everyone’s faceless until one does something silly, getting noticed by being drunkenly wild may be a better alternative to being a wallflower. It’s embarassing, but it does the job.

Men are not spared from PUI behavior, and regardless of the notion that men have higher alcohol tolerance than women, drunk is still drunk. The wilder PUIs that I have seen include men who piss in public and those who do stuff that they would otherwise just do in the privacy of their bedrooms. In their stupor, they might be thinking that they are actually in those places (restroom and bedroom, respectively).

It seems that the only option to avoid the embarassment of PUI would be to get everyone as drunk or drunker than you. But with the advent of modern technology, it gets trickier to keep the PUI sessions hush-hush. Now that almost everyone can afford a state-of-the art mobile phone with camera, video and internet capabilities, the whole thing could be documented in youtube faster than you can say “barf”.
