A Twisted Girl’s Take on Love, Dating and Zodiac Signs

The Internet as a Hunting Ground

I belong to the college batches that initially were not familiar with the net and computers. The first programs that we learned included Word Star. Haha. I remember screaming like crazy with my friend when their WordStar program got infected by a virus. We were finishing up a paper for our Comm II class in UPM when the screen went berserk, we seriously thought it was a ghost that was creating the weird specter.

Now, [almost] a decade after that incident, both my friend and I have become internet savvy. We have taken our opinions to the worldwide web, and are certified blog addicts. Gee, I’m kinda proud of that. Wow.

The internet has now become a hunting ground for those who want to get some. You don’t believe it? Then explain to me how Yahoo Messenger became so popular. Web cam sales have boomed ever since more adventurous people started going for it in the net.

There are also a lot of venues to strut your stuff. Including, classifieds and online games. Hah. For those who clicked this link via Ragnarok forums, you know what I’m talking about.

Having a virtual identity delivers you from the initial embarassment that goes with introducing yourself. After all, if the first “hello” doesn’t elicit a response, you can easily turn off the window and try again with another person.

The convenience of having an online meeting place encourages people, even the shy ones, to date. The arrival of Friendster magnified the potential for finding a partner through the internet to humongous proportions. Gawd, where do I start. And the service gets better and better.

This could be the long-predicted coming of the Age of the Nerds (for those in my generation who remember the movie, The Revenge of the Nerds). If you don’t know computers and the net, you’re square.
