I love Entourage
woobie on September 21st, 2007I am currently downloading Entourage’s latest episode so I figured to write here about it to relieve my impatience. :D
Entourage is a TV series produced by Mark Wahlberg (yeah, the actor), a.k.a Marky Mark (the rapper whose signature style includes a portion of his CK underwear peeking from his jeans). Entourage is a story of a rising star’s triumphs and funny reality in Hollywood. He (Vince Chase) got his break in the biz and hired his bestfriends (Turtle and Eric) to act as his driver and manager, respectively. Johnny, a struggling actor and Vince’s older brother, is also along for the ride. They share a house and have shown time and time again that they have each other’s backs.
The one thing that got me into this series is the underlying story of how Mark Wahlberg recounts his own experiences in hollywood through this series. Though by no means a true biography, several aspects of Mark’s personal life are evident in the episodes. He started out as a rapper, then went on to make movies. He brought his hometown friends along to keep him company and they were there as his assistants, driver and manager. Mark also has an older brother who was in the biz long before he went to hollywood, Donnie Wahlberg (my least favorite member of the boy band, New Kids on the Block.… *sings* ~step by step, oh-baby… gonna get to you girl~).
Two of the real-life experiences that Mark included in the series Entourage are:
- The “bunk bed” scene. Mark recounted in an interview how the members of his own entourage argued over who should get which room when Mark bought his first L.A. mansion. To solve the my-room-in-a-star’s-mansion dilemma, Mark filled a guest room with bunk beds and told his friends to sleep there. In the series, one scene had Turtle, Johnny and Eric fighting over who should sleep in the suite’s extra queen-sized bed, but Vince told them all to sleep in bunk beds.
- The “fly my mom to hollywood” scene. When Mark got nominated for an Oscar, he offered to get his mom a private jet to take her there (just like Vince’s mom), but she said no.
Another aspect of the show that keeps me addicted to it is the unlimited opportunity for big stars to just pop in as guests. The setting is in Hollywood, so it’s just logical that we are going to see the big guns there right? So far, I’ve seen Snoop dogg, Anna Faris, Mandy Moore, Mark Whalberg himself, James Cameron (the director) and many others in the previous episodes. Kanye West will be in the next episode I’m gonna watch.
Here’s the video on cameo appearances of different stars.
