Playing The Game of Love
woobie on September 20th, 2007Why Play…? Is it a “planned” thing? All this talk about playing, but what exactly is The Game?
The game I talk about in this blog has something to do with love and relationships. You know that kind of relationship that seemed like it was fated at first, but turns sour and even bitter afterwards? That’s the one I’m talking about. A lot of factors happen during the relationship. A lot of expectations have not been met. Not to mention the promises that have not been kept. Personal and mutual rules are delineated and broken.
As with all games, there are winners and there are losers. More often than not, those who do not know that they are being played are the ones who lose. It has always been my belief that the person who coined the now widely-known connotation of the term “bitter” was once at the losing end of this kind of relationship. Well, maybe not all of these turn out badly. Some even turn out to be lasting friendships. But that’s yet another topic in a future post.
Hmm… First of all, it doesn’t really start out as a game. A harmless exchange of smiles and cellphone numbers may lead to something more. Then you start thinking that it could last a lifetime, particularly during the romance phase when everything is rose-colored. The “Game” starts to rear its head during the disillusionment phase. Up until that phase, you are firmly convinced that your partner is The One. And so begins the mental marathon… the mind games that signal the start of the phase that could make or break the relationship.
He stops calling, or she stops calling. Wait, but how about the “i love you forever” thing? Attempts at re-establishing communication are made, usually one-sided, and by the one who actually took the “forever” clause seriously.
Then, you realize “I have been played”… how sad.
